Data, Product Innovation, and Trading Desk Skills: Where Are They All Going?

Data has always been a big part of the finance industry, but today Wall Street has access to more volumes of data than ever before, largely because of the onset of alternative intelligence, the cloud and big data. However, putting that information into action—such as turning it into valuable, predictive insights—is difficult. In this video blog, market structure and trading technology expert Kevin McPartland explains how one of the industry’s primary focuses today is figuring out how to put vast troves of data to impactful use.

Mr. McPartland also shares his observations on the new skills sets required today of people on the trading desk, such as the necessity to understand the electronification of the markets and the changing methods of client communication. Additionally, he discusses how the need for liquidity and the hunt for yield have become catalysts for product innovation.
