UC Berkeley Integrates Numerix Software into its Undergraduate-Finance Program

Numerix (www.numerix.com), the leading provider of cross-asset analytics for derivatives valuations and risk management, today announced that UC Berkeley has joined the Numerix Academic Partner Program. Numerix Academic Partners offer financial engineering students invaluable hands-on experience with the industry’s most comprehensive library of market leading models and methods as they learn foundational skills for pricing and managing complex derivatives.

Numerix software will be integrated into UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business undergraduate Fall 2012 curriculum, introducing a new course for students majoring in Financial Engineering titled “Introduction to Financial Engineering.” The goal of the course will be to expose students to the responsibilities and challenges quants and financial engineers face in an institutional setting. As part of the program, students also have a unique opportunity to take advantage of complementary training, support and access to exclusive educational seminars featuring Numerix experts in Quantitative Analysis and Financial Engineering.

“With Numerix software as an integral part of our new Financial Engineering course students will gain valuable practical experience pricing exotic derivatives, using the same valuation models quantitative finance professionals rely on in today’s complex derivatives market,” said Ethan Namvar, Lecturer in the at Berkeley's Haas School of Business . “Our aspiring developers, quantitative analysts and FEs will have the opportunity to become acclimated to the industry standard for analytics software and come to understand how theory and quantitative methods can be applied to a real-world framework.”

“Numerix is committed to supporting Colleges and Universities globally in their education of Financial Engineering students and professionals in the derivatives and finance industry, and are excited to have such a well-respected University join our prestigious program,” said Steven R. O’Hanlon, President & COO of Numerix. “As a result of our partnership, UC Berkeley students can gain a competitive advantage when entering the workforce.  They will also receive priority consideration for participation in specialized internship programs and potential employment at Numerix.”
