1) PURPOSE

The Numerix Environmental Policy and Procedures is a voluntary written statement, which outlines Numerixs’ aims and principles in relation to managing the environmental effects and aspects of our operations. The purpose of this document is to define policy in support of Numerix ‘s environmental obligation. This policy governs all Numerix’s employees to ensure effective and consistent environmentally sound judgements and actions.

2) TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Term/Acronym Definition
Abatement Reducing the degree of intensity or eliminating, pollution.
Biodegradable waste Organic waste, typically coming from plant or animal sources (for example paper & food scraps) which other living organisms can break down.
Carbon footprint A measure of the impact our daily activities have on the environment, especially climate change.
Dumping Disposing of waste illegally by not using proper bins or official recycling centres, civic amenity sites or landfills.
Energy efficiency

Actions taken to conserve fuels and energy, for example changing production processes, developing better transport policies, monitoring daily consumption activity.

Recycle To break waste items down into their raw materials, which are then used to remake the original item or make new items
Refuse Another name for waste
Toxic Poisonous or harmful to the body (ecotoxic relates to damage to the environment)
Toxin A poisonous substance that can either be natural (produced by animals, bacteria or plants) or manufactured.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Any unwanted devices with a plug or battery-from a remote control or digital cameras, computers to fridge/freezer to a vacuum cleaner. These devices must be disposed of carefully to avoid damage to the environment. To get rid of an unwanted device, it can be brought to a civic amenity site or traded in to a retailer when buying a new device, assuring they will be properly recycled

3) OVERVIEW

At Numerix we are committed to a long-term sustainable approach to caring for and safeguarding the environment. Specifically, "sustainability" means that we constantly endeavor to balance environmental considerations and social responsibility with our business goals. As a result, we strive to evolve and implement our Corporate Environmental Policy – in addition to complying with environmental laws and regulations. Over the long run, only a sustainable approach will benefit the consumers, customers, shareholders, associates and communities we serve by both meeting our business goals and protecting and improving the quality of the environment in which we all live.

4)  ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Numerix is conscious in all aspects of environmental impact and is constantly instilling practices in the prevention of pollution which include compliable techniques, materials, products, certain services or energy to avoid and any discharge of waste in order to reduce any adverse environmental impacts. Our environmental policy includes major components to help minimize our impact on and achieve our objectives around the environment:

  • Participating in efforts to improve environmental protection and the sharing of appropriate knowledge, methods and working practices.
  • Managing the consumption of energy, water, paper and other resources used by Numerix in its day to-day operations.
  • Identifying opportunities to divert, minimize, reuse and recycle our waste stream.
  • Considering environmental issues as well as personal employee concerns when leasing or purchasing property.
  • Keeping our Leadership Team informed and updated on Numerix’s environment, health and safety performance.
  • Committing to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Educating our employees about the steps Numerix’s is taking to help protect the environment and providing channels for employees to contribute to our effort.
  • Requesting that employees report any instances of noncompliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations and conducting appropriate follow-up to these instances.
  • Reduce our levels of energy consumption.
  • Recycle equipment, waste products, and redundant items.
  • Procure items, services, and equipment manufactured or produced from sustainable sources or from providers that are committed to environmental protection.
  • Obtain supplies from environmentally friendly organizations and those that use renewable energy sources.
  • Use, store, control, and dispose of waste and hazardous materials in line with environmental best practice.
  • Aim to prevent or reduce our pollution and actively pursue the reduction of our use of substances and processes that adversely affect the environment.

5) WASTE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING

Helping to preserve the environment by using the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
 
Paper Recycling – The Company’s locations shall recycle office paper.
 
Lamp Recycling – Lamps which contain hazardous metals such as mercury shall be recycled in accordance with EPA guidelines.
 
Computer Monitors – Monitors that are designated by the Company’s IT Department as obsolete or are non-operational shall be picked up for recycling by a company specializing in computer equipment recycling.
 
Other Items - In addition to the above the company recycles several materials on an ongoing basis including bottles and cans, plastic bags, pallets, metal and hangers, among other substances.
 
  

6) THIRD-PARTY VENDORS

Throughout the globe, Numerix is committed to working with third-party vendors and service providers who, at a minimum, uphold the relevant environmental laws, regulations and policies of the countries in which they do business.
