Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Numerix Single Name API for convertible bonds?
The Single Name API is a cloud-based REST API developed by Kynex (acquired by Numerix in fall 2024) that provides programmatic access to institutional-grade convertible bond valuation models. It delivers real-time fair value pricing, Greeks, yields, and implied volatility through a single API call.
How long has Kynex been in the convertible bond valuation business?
Kynex has specialized in convertible bond valuation since 1996, representing nearly 30 years of model development and market expertise. This deep institutional knowledge is embedded in the Single Name API.
What key inputs does the Single Name API require?
The API requires security identifiers (CUSIP, FIGI, or ISIN), conversion price, stock price, FX rates, credit spread, volatility, borrow costs, and trade date. Static assumptions are automatically pulled from your portfolio, so you don't need to pass 20 parameters on each call.
What outputs does a single API call provide?
Each calculation returns fair value, bond floor, all first and second-order Greeks, yields, and implied volatility. This comprehensive output set enables trading, risk management, and scenario analysis from one request.
Is the API language-agnostic?
Yes. The Single Name API accepts requests and returns JSON output, making it compatible with Python, Excel/VBA, .NET, and any other language that can consume HTTP and JSON.
What is the infrastructure for the Single Name API?
The API is built on AWS cloud infrastructure for scalability and reliability. It can process 10 requests per second and complete approximately 200 calculations in 20 seconds, supporting 10,000+ calculations per day.
What are the main use cases for the Single Name API?
Primary use cases include real-time portfolio valuation, scenario analysis, historical back-testing, automated gamma trading signals, system integration with trading platforms, and intraday monitoring of convertible positions.
Does the API handle instruments beyond convertible bonds?
Yes. The API also provides valuation and risk calculation for warrants, options, and credit default swaps (CDS), extending its applicability across multiple asset classes.
Is there an API for new convertible bond issuance pricing?
A new issue API is on the product roadmap, but it is not yet available. Current Single Name API functionality is limited to secondary market pricing and risk analysis.
What is required to access the Single Name API?
Access requires a Numerix Portfolio Management System (PMS) subscription plus enrollment in a consumption-based pricing tier. Pricing is based on the volume of calculations consumed.
Is the Single Name API available on-premises or only as SaaS?
The Single Name API is delivered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering on AWS. On-premises server installations are not available.
What performance throughput can I expect from the Single Name API?
The API can handle 10 requests per second with typical sub-second latency. For batch operations, approximately 200 calculations complete in 20 seconds, enabling efficient daily processing of large convertible portfolios.
How does the API reduce operational complexity for trading teams?
By pulling static assumptions from your portfolio rather than requiring manual parameter entry on each call, the API simplifies integration and reduces the risk of configuration errors in high-volume trading workflows.
Can the API support automated trading workflows?
Yes. The Single Name API is specifically designed for system integration and can generate automated gamma trading signals, enabling programmatic hedging decisions based on real-time valuation output.
What competitive advantages does Kynex's model provide versus other solutions?
Kynex brings 29 years of dedicated convertible bond model development, institutional-grade accuracy, integrated handling of complex features (callability, putability, conversion dynamics), and seamless integration with Numerix's broader portfolio risk framework.
