Avoiding Common Pitfalls on the Path to Digital Transformation

Recent years of fintech innovation have ushered in a new era for capital markets and financial services. As a result, many institutions across global capital markets find themselves in the midst of a digital transformation initiative or at least on the brink of launching one. Some organizations anticipate their initiative will enable them to leapfrog the competition, or perhaps achieve disruptor status in the process; for others, it's a measure to survive. Whatever the case, all transformation initiatives—digital or otherwise—are costly and risky, and often with odds stacked against them from the beginning.

While there is no shortage of talk about the importance of choosing the right technology, moving quickly and anticipating where the next digital opportunity (or threat) lies, it is easier than ever to lose sight of the critical success factors without which there is little chance of success for any change program.

On May 15th Mark Ronan, Head of Program Management for Numerix, shared some practical insights, principles and techniques which can help you create and maintain sufficient focus on the core fundamentals as you progress from planning through execution of your transformation journey. After this short talk, you might think differently, or at least more often, about:

  • How to identify and manage your critical stakeholders
  • Avoiding confusion of means and ends in different contexts
  • Identifying and managing constraints, especially constrained resources
  • Delivering value often, in small increments (no matter what your Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) looks like)
  • Deciding well, and as often as necessary
